Sarah Bowie is a Waterford-based author and illustrator who is passionate about comics and accessible reading for all. Her graphic novel middle grade series introducing the character of Nina Peanut debuted in early 2024. She has also published a number of picture books, and her work for adults has appeared in The Guardian and The Irish Times.
Sarah loves helping people discover their own visual storytelling abilities, and delivers a range of workshops in schools and libraries, including: Comics-making, sketchnoting and doodling for wellbeing. She is co-founder of The Comics Lab (a space to explore visual storytelling) and of Ireland’s first Graphic Short Story Prize in partnership with The Irish Times. Nina Peanut: Epic World Tour Era, the third book in her Nina Peanut series, is out June 19th.

Meet author and illustrator Sarah Bowie and find out how she created Nina’s world, where she gets her inspiration, and top tips for creating your own vibrant comic-book characters.

BAM! POW! If you’re a Dog Man superfan or you’re nutty about Bunny vs Monkey, join us to start creating your own comic books with Nina Peanut creator Sarah Bowie. Learn about where to find inspiration, how to create characters that jump off the page and how to tell a great story that will keep your readers turning the pages! Every participant will come away with the beginnings of their own debut comic book.
Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop.
